Bill Wax, President and Founder
Twice nominated for the Pulitzer Prize, Bill Wax spent nearly 10 years at the New York Times Company and then worked as a magazine photojournalist. His work has been published in hundreds of newsstand magazines worldwide for Time, Forbes, Newsweek, Elle and Sports Illustrated, among others. He has created book covers for publishing houses such as Random House, Bantam, Crown and Putnam. Throughout his career, Bill has garnered well over 750 awards for photography, design and publications. The youngest person to be named “Photographer of the Year” by the National Press Photographers Association, Bill founded his company in 1986, drawing on his prodigious background and extraordinary design sense to bring a unique creative approach to marketing.
Heather Mickley, Senior Director, Account Services
With a laser focus on the care and nurturing of relationships, Heather is the perfect choice to lead our Louisville offices. She has a keen eye for detail and a passion for the creative process, having managed countless integrated marketing projects for clients as diverse as France Telecom North America, Lincoln Financial Group and Humana during her tenure with Wax. Heather studied English and Fine Arts at Florida International University. She continues to explore those passions through creative writing and photography. She is also a certified Reiki Master.
Meg DeLeon, Senior Account Supervisor
Meg has an extensive background in publishing, advertising and research on both the client and agency sides. She has worked with industry giants such as Hearst Corporation, Knight-Ridder Inc., the Miami Herald and Federated Department Stores. Her experience includes media planning and buying, event planning, fostering sports sponsorships and managing creative teams in the development of ads and in-store collateral.
Craig Fairfield, Account Executive
Craig understands strategic marketing and communications – from the inside, as a former marketing and communications executive for University of Louisville Healthcare, and the outside, having created and managed award-winning programs for a wide variety of regional and national clients including, Norton Healthcare, McKendree University, Neace Lukens Insurance, 21st Century Radiation Oncology and others. With an MBA in international business and BBA in marketing, he also understands the complexities of today’s business environment. In his spare time, Craig enjoys teaching at the university level, cycling and indulging his passion for anything mechanical.
Geli Campbell, Account Executive
With extensive experience in advertising, brand strategy and market research, as well as media planning and buying for clients in both the public and private sector, Geli knows what it takes to develop, implement and manage a campaign from the inside out . She has worked with clients like Walt Disney Parks and Resorts in Orlando, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Columbia TriStar Pictures, and numerous pharmaceutical companies. Geli, who holds a bachelor's degree from Florida International University, is passionate about bringing positive messages that change and evolve communities through effective communication strategies.
Annette Cortes, Account Executive
Annette has more than 15 years of experience in advertising and marketing, on both the agency and client sides, for such diverse clients as MetroPlus Health Plan, Wyeth, AstraZeneca and Colgate-Palmolive. She has also worked in sales and marketing for Hispanic media conglomerate Televisa. Annette has extensive knowledge in strategic media planning and buying, event planning and execution, and trade shows, as well as managing creative teams in developing ads and sales collateral.
Jimmy Gonzalez, Senior Art Director
As a senior art director, Jimmy is responsible for defining brand identities, concepting and developing creative rationales, and directing artists and photographers for various clients. Before joining Wax, Jimmy spent seven years as the founding art director of Arthur Frommer’s Budget Travel magazine and most recently spent two years as a design consultant at Vanguard Direct in New York City, working for clients such as CUNY, American Medical Association, NYC Department of Education, and NYC Department of Health, among other NYC departments.
Jad Ahdab, Art Director, Special Projects
Most recently, Jad was creative director for McCann Erickson. He also worked as creative director for A.W.I. and senior art director for Euro RSCG, managing offices in Europe, the Middle East and Africa; and handling brands including, Danone, Volvic, Coca Cola Group, Jaguar, Renault, Nescafé, Chanel and Chopard. His expertise includes creating brand strategies and 360-degree communications, as well as developing new business. In his role with Wax, Jad will grow Wax’s creative business solutions and show that creativity and business can live in harmony.
Claudio Figueroa, Associate Art Director
A former art director of HISPANIC Magazine and PODER (USA), Claudio is an award-winning designer who brings more than 14 years of experience to Wax, including graphic arts, broadcasting design, TV production, animation, motion and sound editing.
Jeannie Saiz, Senior Graphic Designer
A graduate of the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, Jeannie has worked for Southeast Resort Media designing publications, including Las Olas Magazine, ROOMS and International Yachtsman.
Natalie Biesel, Senior Graphic Designer
In addition to her significant skills in front of a computer, Natalie is accomplished behind a camera and recently spent a year living and working in Guanajuato, Mexico, where she captured the vibrant colors and dynamic people of the region in an amazing series of photos. Degrees in graphic design and Spanish from Indiana University, a great eye for design and unlimited energy make Natalie a valuable member of the Wax team. She is also an intrepid traveler and passionate foodie.
Gretchen Schmidt, Editorial Director
Gretchen, who oversees editorial content for various Wax projects, has been editing and writing for more than 35 years – the past 15 years in custom publishing for a variety of clients. She’s written the book on fun (Fun Seeker’s Guide Miami) and other guidebooks (Miami Night + Day), has contributed to Time Out and Fodor's, and is contributing editor at edible South Florida. Fluent in Spanish and Italian, she studied at Barnard College in New York City and the Instituto Internacional in Madrid, Spain.
Monica Rosas, Editor
Monica is an editor and copywriter whose background includes writing feature articles for national magazines and daily newspapers, editing for medical companies, and writing or editing for medical and research organizations. Before joining Wax Custom Communications, she was the managing editor of the award-winning consumer/business newspaper Mercado de Dinero. Monica is fully bilingual in English and Spanish and holds a master’s degree in journalism from Iona College in New York and a postgraduate certificate in Hispanic Communications from St. Thomas University in Miami, Fla.
Mary Thorsby, Editor
Mary is an expert communicator with more than 15 years experience creating compelling content and savvy strategies for a wide variety of clients, including Amgen, Genentech, Siemens Corp., Blue Cross Blue Shield of California, Levi Strauss & Co. and Apple Computer. Experienced in writing business news, entertaining features, collateral pieces, elaborate coffee-table books and new product releases. Mary is also the creator and founder of iList Paducah, an award-winning community website and social media tool for Paducah, Kentucky, and the surrounding community.
Amy Avery, Writer
A full-time professional writer with more than 20 years of experience in healthcare communications for multiple audiences, Amy has earned national recognition for her expertise, providing copy for clients that include Baylor Health System, Blue Cross Blue Shield, the Cleveland Clinic, Securitec Publications, A.I. duPont/Nemours and Geisinger Health System, to name a few. She also has extensive experience producing adult education communications.
Andrea Gollin, Writer
Comfortable working in any medium, Andrea is an expert healthcare writer and also has considerable experience writing about technology and the arts. She has covered a wide range of topics for publications that include The Washington Post, Salon.com, Entertainment Weekly, Scholastic and Expedia. She regularly works with museums, nonprofits, architects and planners.
Matt Windsor, Writer
As the publications editor for a major U.S. research university, Matt has spent 10 years translating new advances in basic science and patient care to lay audiences. He has also written extensively for health and wellness-oriented print publications, e-newsletters and websites.
Steffen Smith, Writer
Steffen is a seasoned financial writer with 20+ years of experience working with top-tier financial organizations (banks, credit unions, insurance companies and card issuers). Leaning on his training as a print journalist, he utilizes all the tricks of the reporter's trade to explore fresh angles and create lively, engaging articles. Key clients over the years have included multistate financial institutions such as Bank One and Bank of America. He has also worked with credit card companies such as Chase Manhattan Bank and CoreStates Bank of Delaware, as well as insurance companies Lincoln Financial and Guaranty Insurance Services.
Rick Gramatges, Senior Director, IT and Operations
Rick, a Miami native, started his career at Bell Labs in Chicago after earning a master’s degree in computer science from the Illinois Institute of Technology and electrical engineering degrees from Florida International University and Miami-Dade College. Before joining Wax, Rick spent 18 years developing Internet-related systems and services for U.S. and international markets. He has worked in New York, Europe and, most recently, Latin America for Brasil Telecom and Lucent Technologies. With his knowledge of information systems and services, Rick focuses on Wax’s interactive portfolio.
Shawn Williams, Director of IT Systems and Services
After obtaining a BS in biochemistry and physics at the University of Pittsburgh, Shawn worked as a medical researcher in molecular and cellular biology at the University of Miami. He then got a master’s degree in CIS at the University of Miami School of Business. In the 12 years since then, Shawn has worked in various areas of IT, including application development, networking, security, systems integration, system analysis and design, and project management. Shawn currently manages Wax’s IT systems and provides consultation services for Wax’s clients.
Kelley Kirk, Interactive Account Executive
With more than 25 years of experience in healthcare marketing and public relations, Kelley has worked in virtually every area of the market, including hospitals, physician practices and managed care with Hospital Corporation of America (HCA), SantaFe HealthCare and AvMed Health Plans. Kelley has developed strong interactive management capabilities, using multiple content management systems, programming HTML and managing call center/CMS integration.
Fernanda Millares, Web Developer
Originally from Argentina, Fernanda has handled both print interactive design and programming in the 10 years she’s worked with Wax. She is also a commercial photographer, an artist and a videographer; she won an MTV award as a music video producer. She has developed complete interactive solutions for large and mid-sized clients. From full HTML development to Flash animation and video, Fer, as she is known, can handle just about any design challenge.
Anton Fajardo, Senior Software Architect
Born in Russia and raised in Cuba, Anton has worked in the United States for more than 10 years, gaining expertise in technologies such as ASP, ASP.NET, MS SQL, C#, VB and many others. He also has contributed to open source CMS systems and has extensive experience in the telecom industry, as well as in software project management and design.
Jeremy Morris, Senior Director, Strategic Planning
An internationally recognized thought leader in the fields of digital marketing, social media and content strategy, Jeremy has included in his 30-year career senior marketing roles in three countries: the UK, Canada and most recently the United States. Jeremy has worked closely with senior executives at leading U.S. companies, including USAA, Kaiser Permanente, the U.S. Navy, USPS and GM to implement strategies that leverage the Web to engage and influence empowered consumers. Jeremy is also a widely read blogger and (hyper) active participant on multiple social media platforms.
Mark Collins, Business Strategy
For more than 30 years, Mark has worked in various sales and marketing management roles in custom publishing, working for such companies as Whittle Communications and Esquire magazine. He worked with such accounts as the U.S. Army, Nissan, Ford, Xerox, BMW, R.J. Reynolds, Ralston-Purina and Johnson & Johnson as well as a who’s who of health care including Baylor Health and a number of BlueCross BlueShield plans. Currently, Mark primarily handles health-related accounts for Wax in the western United States. Also a talented writer, Mark has contributed to major publications, including USA Today. He co-founded two popular, established San Diego fund-raisers; the Humane Society’s Fur Ball and the prestigious La Jolla Art Wine Festival.
Andrew Miller, Search Engine Marketing Specialist
Andrew specializes in integrated SEO, where search and social marketing best practices meet. He is proficient in search engine optimization (SEO), search engine marketing (SEM), pay per click (PPC) advertising management, web analytics and conversion optimization consulting. He has previously worked as a media planner for The Martin Agency and in the account services space for clients such as CarMax, where he was the strategic lead for all website traffic-driving initiatives.
Mike Sherman, Social Media Specialist
A social media and online marketing specialist, Michael has been an account executive for large agencies and boutique shops alike including Zimmerman & Partners in Fort Lauderdale, FL. He has nearly a dozen years of traditional account service, traffic, production and interactive marketing experience and has focused on digital marketing strategy, monitoring and implementation for the last four years. Michael has a high passion for Web 2.0 and is a board member of the South Florida Interactive Marketing Association.
Lilly Brunetti, Controller
Lilly’s accounting career actually began when she was 8, helping out at her mother’s accounting firm. Her background also includes photography and photo lab work. And she has a degree as a professional makeup artist, specializing in advanced prosthetics. Lilly speaks three languages, and her diverse interests include working for nonprofits such as the Urban Environment League of Greater Miami.
Sabrina Aponte, Production Manager
Sabrina brings a diverse background, dedication and a passion for advertising and communications to her role as production manager. As marketing supervisor at Seguros La Previsora, Venezuela's premier insurance provider, she handled account management, communications and marketing.
Jason Baez, Office Manager
Jason’s previous work as a contract administrator and marketing associate for a top real estate developer earned him a role in the Wax family. Experienced in computer animation, music production and graphic design, Jason is a unique asset to the company.
